The Behavioural Puzzle: Understanding and Supporting Young Children in Preschool
A Two-Part Professional Development Webinar for Educators and Allied Health Professionals
Understanding behaviour in young children can often feel like solving a complex puzzle. Challenging behaviours are rarely "just behaviour" and may reflect communication difficulties, sensory needs, emotional regulation challenges, developmental differences, or other unmet needs.
In this practical two-part webinar series, educators and allied health professionals will explore why behaviours occur in preschool-aged children and how this increases risk to our children and educators. The series will provide evidence-informed strategies to support children's regulation, communication, participation, and wellbeing.
Part 1: Understanding Behaviour - Identifying, Assessing and Interpreting What We See
This session explores behaviour through a developmental lens, helping participants understand what is typical for preschool-aged children and what behaviours may be communicating beneath the surface. In this session, an assessment framework will be introduced as a practical and proactive approach to understanding behaviours.
Part 2: Supporting Behaviour - Intervention, Regulation and Moving Forward
Building on the foundations from Part 1, this session delves into the risks associated with behaviours and provides practical, effective strategies that can be embedded within early childhood settings to support children's regulation, participation, and emotional wellbeing.

• Educational leaders and inclusion professionals
• Allied health professionals
